‘Uniting the Nations’ is a national Model United Nations tournament for UK schools. The day-event will be a role-play simulation of a UN Security Council debate to agree a resolution on the Olympic Truce.
‘Uniting the Nations’ takes place on Saturday 10 March 2012. The tournament is open to pupils aged 14-19 from UK schools. School delegations can range in size from a minimum of 3 pupils to a maximum of 10. A teacher can accompany in a supporting role.
The timings of the event are as follows:
8.45 – 9.30: Registration
9.30 – 10.30: Opening Ceremony
4.30 – 5.30: Closing Ceremony
School delegations will be allocated countries they are to represent by UNA-UK. There will either be one or two pupils from a school representing a particular country. For example, if a school sends a delegation of 5 participants, this could work as two countries of two pupils and one country of one pupil.
The overall winning school delegation will win a trip to visit the United Nations in New York. The prize is for 3 pupils plus a teacher.
The tournament will be held at the global HQ of the United Nations International Maritime Organization in London.

South East Hants Peace Council invites you to take part in their evening to celebrate Peace Day.

UNA-UK’s policy objectives are debated and agreed at regular policy-making conferences. Conference 2011 is a fantastic opportunity for members to help shape UNA-UK’s policy. This year's conference is being held in the Welsh National Temple of Peace and Health which has a long association with the United Nations.
This year’s conference should be especially interesting for members as it is the first under the chairmanship of Sir Jeremy Greenstock, and the first with Phil Mulligan as Executive Director. It also coincides with UNA-UK Board’s development of a new strategic plan, a draft of which will be presented by Sir Jeremy and Phil in Cardiff.
Prior to the conference, on Friday 17 June 2011, members will be given the option to take part in workshops and the ever-popular ‘UN quiz’, and to enjoy a buffet dinner at the Temple of Peace.
Format of Conference 2011 The conference will follow the successful format of the last few conferences, using a mixture of plenary sessions and smaller, concurrent policy commissions to debate and agree motions. The decisions of the commissions are voted on en masse in plenary.
Booking arrangements The booking form lists the various booking options. UNA-UK is not arranging accommodation for delegates but when you make your booking, you will receive a list with accommodation suggestions.
The Temple Of Peace

Much of the 2005 Doctor Who episode "The End of the World" was filmed in the Temple Hall and other parts of the building. The location was used to represent a space station five billion years in the future. Temple Hall was also used in the 2007 episode "Gridlock" and the 2008 episode "The Fires of Pompeii".
